- The Center for Tropical Marine Ecology was established in 1991 by the Society for the Promotion of Scientific Research in the State of Bremen.
- A major goal is to analyze tropical coastal ecosystems in their complexity and to establish the scientific (ecological and socio-economic) data base essential for the development of sound science based concepts for Integrated Coastal Zone Management.
- Member of the Center for Marine Environmental Sciences (MARUM) and the Consortium of German Marine Research (KDM)
- Funded by the State of Bremen and Federal Agencies
- 55 staff members (35 scientists)
Potential contributions to GMES / GOB Bremen
- Focus on Tropical Coastal Zone Management & Human Impacts
- structure and functioning of ecosystems such as the mangroves and coral reefs, as well as marine plankton, and fisheries;
- Measurements of seawater properties along tropical coasts (chlorophyll, suspended matter, dissolved organic matter, temperature, salinity as well as gas and aerosol).
